  • Wow I have alot of pictures to update with. It has been awhile. Well just a teaser for now.

Root Cellar Community dinners. Going well. Lots of fun!!

Visitors.....lots more fun. Some of my little sisters.

And the latest favorite Root Cellar Story.
These two boys one named Wol and one named Dahir. When he started coming here Dahir was the type of guys that didn't impress me with his brains......he would start fights with Wol. Now Dahir is about 1/3 the size of Wol. Fortunately Wol had been coming to the Root Cellar long enough that he knew that we wouldn't allow fighting here. So he would either ignore Dahir until we kicked Dahir out or he would take it outside. After a period of much kicking out of Dahir, he stopped fighting so much. I thought this was pretty cool in itself, but the story gets better. This past Friday we had a Girls only sleepover at the Root Cellar. The girls all had to get permission slips signed and such. Some of the boys kept asking if they could come. I kept pointing out the fact that it was GIRLS ONLY. Friday night some of the girls still hadn't gotten their permission slips filled out so I told them to go home during Teen Center and get them signed. After I told the girls this Dahir disappeared. When he came back to Teen Center I asked him where he went. He stated I went home to get permission for the sleepover. (At this point in time I was thinking I was really right about this teen and his brain.) I said "Dahir, this is girls only." At which point he goes, "not for here. I am sleeping over at Wol's house." He went back into the teen center and I just stood their with mouth open in shock that he was sleeping over at the same guy that he used to fight all the time!!! Only God does such cool things like that with people answering the call to spend time with these children!!

Hope that God gives you a SUPER AMAZING week overflowing with HIS amazing love, Rachel

  • Yes, it has been awhile!! If my Mom wasn't so good at reminding me that this needs updating I don't think it would happen.

Party at Jolene's house!! We made homemade soft pretzels. Super YUMMY!!! Posing for someone elses camera.

Until the evening was done we had made probably 6-8 pans of pretzels (about 8-12 pretzels a pan). They were gone in a flash. You can't get much better then straight out of the oven!!

Tiniest pretzel made. It was made with all the little scraps. I think it was pretty tough to eat.

Root Cellar Children from the after-school program!! They are quite exuberant when they get to go in the teen center. They like playing things such as air hockey, fooseball, ping pong, and the list goes on.

Our baseball players!! Notice our home plate. They will make do with whatever to be able to do what they would like to do.

My latest favorite Root Cellar moment happend last Friday night. We have had mostly Sudanese teens coming to the teen center. Well, last Friday 2 younger Somlian boys came. They were old enough to come to the teen center so we let them in. Just to let you all know, Sudanese and Somlis do not like each other. Rarely do you find them being friends. Well, we were getting ready to have snack and all the boys were at a table except the two Somlian boys. There was two of our regular Sudanese boys that told the Somlian boys to come and sit with them. The Somlian boys declined and sat at a table all by themselves. Then those two boys that invited the Somlian boys to sit with them got up from their friends and went over to sit with the boys that the week before had caused a large fight between the Sudanese and the Somlis. It was amazing to see God at work through those boys!!

    RETREAT

Pretzel making, root cellar, retreat 140

During our unit's retreat in March we went down to PA. While we were down H-burg had it's youth night. It was an 80's theme. Anna and Kezia went to Salvation Army and got some crazy 80's outfits!!

At the cabin we stayed at there was wood expelling sap.

Kezia and I had a time together roasting hot dogs one day when everyone else was doing something else. Loads of fun!!

I even got to ride on the back of this motorcycle. Yes, I was wearing knee socks....but my legs were warm!!

After retreat Anna came up and spent the week with me. We had a ton of FUN!! Then my Grandparents came up and spent the weekend with the both of us. We went to Baily's Island on Saturday morning. Cold, but good.

Well I must start my day. Today I will go help the School nurse out in the morning, be in charge of the after-school program in the afternoon, go to part of our community dinner this evening, and then off to a youth group meeting. GOD IS GOOD!! If He wasn't I wouldn't make it through my crazy days like today and tomorrow!!

The tables Mary Jane and Rebekah decorated the tables. The youth leaders all helped in making a traditional Middle Eastern meal. Although the rice was bright yellow from one of the spices it was all very good. I wasn't sure if I was going to glow in the dark with the bright yellow rice, but I didn't.
